Offering 25 sports with multiple team levels over three seasons, Mater Dei High School's Athletics Program provides a comprehensive opportunity for student-athletes to compete and grow though life-building skills including teamwork, camaraderie, discipline, respect, and diligence. Mater Dei is a member of the Trinity League, one of the most competitive leagues in the country.
Our student-athletes are trained and guided by our dedicated coaching staff in state-of-the-art facilities that include Meruelo Athletic Center & William Lyon Homes Aquatic Complex which houses a three-court, 3,200 seat gymnasium; the Monarch Hall of Fame; a wrestling room; a 10-lane, 25 meter swimming pool; a training/rehabilitation center; weight training/conditioning center; locker rooms; equipment rooms and athletic offices. In addition to these facilities, our outdoor athletics area includes The Rod Dedeaux Baseball Complex at Joe O'Hara Field, Rick's Track, and the Andry Golf practice facility.
Over 68% of our students participate in our athletic programs as athletes, statisticians, managers, or student trainers. Many of the nation's most incredible athletes have begun their careers at Mater Dei High School. We have had two Heisman trophy winners, three National Gatorade Players of the Year, and five State Gatorade Players of the Year.
Since the school's inception in 1950, our teams have won 90 CIF, State, and National Championships. Mater Dei's reputation has spread to national and international levels with top rankings from ESPN Rise, MaxPreps.com, and Sports Illustrated.
