	The mission of Monarchs for Marines is to provide tangible support and encouragement to the Marines serving in Iraq and their families living on or near Camp Pendleton. Dedicating their football season and establishing a direct personal bond with the 1st Marine Division gives our football team and the Mater Dei community a special opportunity to make a difference.

M4M 2022	The Guadalcanal Patch
On June 19, 2022, with support and cooperation from Camp Pendleton personnel, the varsity football team, dance team, coaching staff and numerous parent volunteers provided an action-packed, fun-filled day at Camp Pendleton. The day included a football clinic for Marine Corps Football League players and coaches, who under the direction of Coach Rollinson and staff, practice with the varsity team and then participate in a light scrimmage. The football team and dance team also ran a youth football camp and dance camp, respectively, for more than 400 children of Camp Pendleton personnel. There is also a “Lil Marine” Camp which involves whimsical face and hair painting, as well as fun bounce houses for the tiny tots. The day’s events culminated with a closing ceremony with featured performances by the dance camp participants, followed by words of mutual gratitude from a First Marine Division Commanding Officer and Coach Rollinson. On behalf of Mater Dei, Coach Rollinson will present a token of appreciation to the First Marine Division. The revered Guadalcanal Patch was presented to each Monarch player and coach. In a rare honor, and as a demonstrative sign of the Monarch dedication of the season to the First Marine Division, the patches are being worn this season on the Monarch game jerseys. The 1st Marine Division shoulder patch originally was authorized for wear by members of units who served with or were attached to the Division in the Pacific in World War II; it was the first patch to be approved in that war and specifically commemorated the division’s sacrifices and victory in the Battle for Guadalcanal. It features the National Colors – red, white, and blue – in its diamond-shaped blue background with red numeral “1” inscribed with white lettering, “GUADALCANAL.” The white stars featured on the night-sky blue background are in the arrangement of the Southern Cross constellation, under which the Guadalcanal fighting took place. It is with great pride the Monarchs too bare the insignia on their jerseys, with the blessing of the 1st Marine Division. (Source)
