12/10/18 vs Woodbridge(10th D3) @Mater Dei

Four games in one week is a daunting task for the fittest teams and going 4-0 during that span was a tall order for these young Monarchs.  Mater Dei came close as they took on the Woodbridge Warriors Monday night at Mater Dei.  The score ended tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and the Monarchs would feel that they should have got more out of this game.  Before the game the Monarchs captain Turner Mills was unable to pass the fitness test and was unavailable for the nights proceedings.  The action started in the 19th minute as a barrage of long throw-ins from the Warriors led to a corner.  The Warriors would capitalize with a big header to put the Monarchs behind for the first time all season.  The Monarchs showed their character as they limited the Warriors to only one other shot all game.  But these Warriors were stingy as well limiting the Monarchs high powered offense to only 9 shots down from their average of 18 a game.  It took grit and a strong mentality for the Monarchs to finally break through as Anthony Barajas latched onto a ball in behind the Warriors defenders and carried the ball into the box.  A warrior defender clipped Barajas' heels and down he went as the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Cooly as they come, Barajas tucked the ball away for his 5th goal of the season with 15 minutes remaining.  Mater Dei would get two more good looks to finish the game, but were unable to finish and the game ended with both teams left wanting.  The Monarchs record goes to 3-0-1 and they take on the streaking Corona Del Mar Sea Kings on Saturday at Mater Dei at 2pm in a battle of two undefeated teams.  We look forward to seeing everyone out for this big matchup!!

12/7/18 vs Savanna @Mater Dei

In the third game in a week for the Monarchs got off to another quick start with Anthony Barajas at the center of all the action again.  He scored two and assisted on another.  The first came in the 18th minute as Turner Mills unlocked the Savanna back line with a ball in behind that Diego Oseguera headed onto to Barajas who shrugged off one defender and rounded the keeper to put in the third goal of his season.  The next came in 10 minutes later as Barajas sent a designed corner to Lehner for the tap in.  And the last saw Barajas out jump two Savanna defenders for his fourth goal and Mater Dei's third of the day.  That would be all the scoring the Monarchs needed as the second half proved uneventful.  The Monarchs are back in action Monday at 5pm as they take on the 8th ranked team in CIF Division 3 Woodbridge Warriors at home.  See you there!  Go Monarchs!!!

12/5/18 vs Portola @Mater Dei

In the second game of the week and of the new season Mater Dei drew a stingy Portola team.  It took the Monarchs 15 minutes to break the zeros with a Diego Oseguera signature hardworking goal.  Anthony Barajas was able to navigate a couple of defenders and crossed toward the goal.  The Portola keeper was able to get a hand to it, but not enough to keep it away from Oseguera who pounced on it for the opening goal.  The next goal cam 30 minutes in with the Monarchs playing quick to Bryce Lehner who immediately picked Barajas out on top of the 6 yard box for his first goal of the campaign.

12/3/18 vs Northwood @Mater Dei

In the first game of the 2018/19 season, Mater Dei got out to a blazing start scoring off a corner two minutes into the game thanks to a Cole Martin Corner and an Irving Onofre header.  It took another 25 minutes for the next goal to come as Bryce Lehner doubled the lead with a pinpoint shot from 25 out that hit the post before going in.  The third cam only three minutes later as Turner Mills comfortably headed in from 2 yards out off a sublime ball by Noah Mangosing.  The half finished 3-0 for the Monarchs, but they were not done.  Two minutes in the the second half Tae Ulicny finished a cross from Anthony Barajas to essentially finish the game.  The Monarchs would add one more from Diego Oseguera in the 65th for good measure.  Michael Muller kept the sheet clean with 3 saves on the evening.  This takes the Monarchs to 1-0 on the young season. The Monarchs continue their preseason with a game Wednesday evening vs Portola at home at 5pm.  See you there!

11/26/18 vs Marina @Mater Dei

In the last tune up before official pre season games begin, the Monarchs played against Marina High School.  Diego Oseguera opened the scoring for night from an assist from Bryce Lehner who then doubled the score 2 minutes later from an assist from Turner Mills.  Late in the half Marina clawed one back scoring from deep in one of their few opportunities on the night.  Tae Ulicny effectively ended the game with a goal in the 70th minute.  The ball fell to Ulicny in the box who then pushed it by two defenders and slotted it past the Marina keeper.  The next game is at home against Northwood at 5pm next Monday 12/3/18.  See you there!!!
