James Griffin

Wide Receivers

Coach Griffin will join Mater Dei for the first time as the Wide Receivers Coach and is eager to see how his experience as a player and coach will help elevate the Monarchs this season.

Coming to us after seven years with the football program at Fullerton College, Coach Griffin was instrumental in the roles of Offensive Coordinator (1 yr.), Wide Receivers Coach (6 yrs.), Pass Game Coordinator, and Recruiting Coordinator. During his time there, Coach Griffin helped lead the Hornets to a 30+ game winning streak, multiple playoff appearances, and two SCFA, CCCAA State and National Championships (2016/2017), with twenty-three of his wide receivers signing Division One scholarships and over eighty of his players receiving scholarships and signing to play with NCAA programs coast to coast.

As a player, Coach Griffin was a high school standout as a Wide Receiver/Defensive Back, earning him three All-State selections and The Tennessee State Player of the Year Award (‘99) before heading west to Pasadena City College, where he was selected First Team All American (’01) and National Junior College Player of the Year (’02), opening doors for him on the East Coast in Virginia.

Coach Griffin received a Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech University, while leading the Hokies on the field as a Team Captain during the 2004 ACC Championship season, Sugar Bowl (’05), and Hula Bowl (’05). Upon graduation from Virginia Tech, he continued to gain player experience over the next few years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Alaska Wild (IFL), Corpus Christi Hammerheads (IFL), San Jose Sabercats (AFL), and Stockton Lightning (AFL).

After acquiring a Master of Science in Education Degree from Northcentral University in 2014, Coach Griffin moved to Fullerton, CA to begin his coaching career at Fullerton College where he is still currently a Kinesiology/Physical Education Instructor.
